R.I.S.E. stands for Restore, Inspire, Serve and Equip. When we first started thinking about changing up the way we did Sunday nights we knew we wanted to use them to serve people, but we also needed an outlet to encourage our own members and equip people to do ministry work (Ephesians 4.12-16) so R.I.S.E. was born! We plan to use these 1st Sunday nights of every month in a variety of ways to help build up the church, but also to serve our community.
What projects have we done so far?
We started R.I.S.E. in January and we decided to kick it off by visiting some of our homebound members. It had been a very long time for some of them since they had gotten to enjoy being at a worship service with their church family so we took the worship service to them!
In February we took snack baskets to the 5 local fire departments here in Northport. The firefighters who serve our community are heroes so we wanted to honor them in a special way and pray for their safety as they keep us safe.
In March we wanted to help the West Alabama Food Bank. They fill around 1200 food packs every month to discretely send home with students. They also make packs to give to senior citizens who have food insecurity. From 5:15-6PM we filled as many of these packs as we could, arranged some cans for their “store” and helped clean their warehouse. The Northport Gazette wrote a short article about our involvement. You can read it here.
Over the last several months we’ve written cards to some of the families that serve as missionaries around the world to encourage them in their work, we went Christmas caroling to some of our homebound members, worked on various VBS projects and several other projects. We’re looking forward to more great projects in the future!
